Can GCC packs be used inflight?
As of now, inflight roaming will not work with GCC packs. GCC packs are exclusively built for use within GCC countries only.
-
Will Business plans that provide inclusive roaming data work inflight?
Yes, roaming data provided as part of such Business plans, like our Executive Plans, will work inflight. Please note that any roaming data pack eligible for preferred networks will work.
-
What are the operators available inflight?
You can roam inflight with AeroMobile and OnAir, however, the availability of these networks depends on the airline you’re flying.
-
How do I know when to use the service or when to connect to the network?
The cabin crew will make an announcement to let you know when you can turn your phone on and use this service. Typically, the inflight network becomes available when the aircraft has reached 6,000m above the ground. The network will be available throughout the cruise phase of the flight, but phones must be switched off for take-off and landing.
-
What should I see on my device on air?
Once you’ve turned on your device on, you should connect to the AeroMobile or On Air network fairly quickly. The operator will be displayed as the network provider and you’ll get a welcome text. You can then make and receive calls, texts and emails or browse just as you would on the ground.
-
What happens when my data pack is fully consumed?
Your data pack will work exactly like it would otherwise. You’ll get a usage notification at 70%, 85% and 100% consumption levels. Once your data allowance is over, you’ll be given the option to buy another one or continue on a pay per use basis. Pay per use while inflight is an expensive option, and we always recommend buying a roaming data pack.
-
Can I check my data usage while inflight?
Yes, you can track your data usage through the du app or through mydata.du.ae. While your data pack is active, data usage on these portals will be consumed from your data pack. However, if you don’t have an active roaming data pack, you’ll be paying pay per use data rates to access the du app or mydata.du.ae.
-
What if I can’t find any of the preferred inflight operators on my device?
This could mean that the operators are not available on your flight as each airline has a separate contract with their inflight operator. If you don’t see AeroMobile or OnAir it could be because the airline you’ve chosen uses a different operator. You can always double check with the flight crew if necessary.
-
On which UAE airlines will I find these preferred operators?
Currently, both Emirates Airline and Etihad Airlines offer inflight services, however, do note that not all sectors or flights may have the service available.
