Embracing the spirit of generosity that the Holy Month of Ramadan embodies, du has donated AED 18,400 to Dubai Cares to be used for its School Health and Nutrition Programmes, on behalf of 920 employees and du customers who registered for the company’s ‘Every Step Counts’ walkathon, held on July 23, 2013 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, in partnership with The Dubai Mall.
Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du, presented the donation to Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares, during a ceremony held at Dubai Cares’ offices on August 1, 2013. Also present at the event were senior representatives from both organizations.
Speaking at the event, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares said: “We would like to thank du for this kind donation, which is proof of the strong humanitarian values that characterize the people of the UAE. du has long been a supporter of our initiatives and this donation will help many children who are unable to access primary education and quality learning, due to inadequate levels of health and nutrition in schools. Without the support of our very generous community, we would not have been able to reach more than 8 million children in 31 developing countries to date, and many more in the future.”
Hala Badri added: “It is a pleasure to be able to support Dubai Cares through this donation, which is made on behalf of our customers who registered for our ‘Every Step Counts’ walkathon. As a responsible company, we are very aware of how we can have a positive impact on the lives of those less fortunate around us. Not only did the ‘Every Step Counts’ walkathon bring people together in the spirit of adopting a healthier lifestyle fuelled by positive energy, but they also gathered for a good cause – to support Dubai Cares and embrace the generosity of Ramadan by helping children in need around the world.”
du launched ‘Every Step Counts’, a nationwide wellness initiative, in July 2013. For more information on ‘Every Step Counts’, visit www.du.ae/everystepcounts.
