Dubai, April 11, 2011
The Red Bull X-Fighters are getting ready for the big event to be held on April 15, against the backdrop of the Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence in Dubai, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council. In the meantime, the logistics also continue at the arena hosting the show, that has a capacity of 15000 spectators.
When introducing the stars who will participate in the Red Bull X-Fighters 2011, we shall start with the 2010 champion Nate “El destructor” Adams (USA) who is very well known in the FMX world. Adams proved his exceptional skills during the past two seasons and collected two consecutive titles, known that he leaded last season’s ranking without winning any round!
Adams, who celebrated his 27th birthday last month, hopes to keep the title and therefore started intensive training in this concern after a huge load of international competitions. “El destructor” aims at “giving the best shows, avoiding injury, winning two or three rounds in order to keep the title.” However, his runner up has other plans for him. Andre Villa (NOR), who is 2 years older than Adams, was last season’s surprise as he leaded the ranking from the starting round till the finale in Rome, and was at 5 points from the title but he failed to accomplish the mission. The third man on 2010 podium was one of the most elegant riders in style, combining flawless technique and unique manoeuvres. Although Danny Torres (ESP) won the last round in Rome and was very close to winning the title several times during the season, luck failed him as he got injured in Moscow. This year Danny Torres’ will be participating in the event sporting du logo on his uniform and helmet.
Other riders were on the podium last year, namely Levi Sherwood (NZL) who came 4th in the overall ranking. The 29-year-old know as “Rubber Boy” had a big start in Red Bull X-Fighters, winning his first ever competition in Mexico in 2009. And after two wins last season, Sherwood missed the opportunity to grab the title because of an injury that deprived him from the grand finale. However, he will definitely be one of the title contenders this year along with Adam Jones (USA), fifth overall in 2010 and winner of the Giza, Egypt round. Jones (26) is one of the best freestyle riders in the world, which portfolio only lacks a Red Bull X-Fighters title after he won an X-Games gold medal in 2007. The top 6 closes with Robbie “Maddo” Maddison (AUS) famous for his jump over the Greek Corinthia Canal. Maddo (29) won the Madrid round last year but could not compete for the top 3 as he missed the grand finale because of an injury.
FMX is a world of challenge, therefore, the competition will only heat up with 6 more of the world elite riders: Lance Coury (21, USA), Eigo Sato (32, JAP), Takayoki Higashino (26, JAP), Robbie Edelberg (22, AUS), Jackson Strong (19, AUS), Blake Williams (26, AUS).
