With the aim of nurturing a sustainable society and fostering a sense of community volunteering this Ramadan, du has partnered with Tarahum charity foundation to distribute 20,000 boxes of essential food items to Emirati families throughout Dubai and the Northern Emirates during the Holy month.

In line with the Mawaed Al Rahman initiative, du staff and volunteers will distribute over 20,000 conveniently packed, reusable, environmentally friendly boxes of 13 essential Ramadan food items, to families in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Volunteers will drive throughout in mobile vans distributing food boxes, toys, books, clothes and other useful items to beneficiary families. The public can register to volunteer in the food packaging and distribution efforts by sending an email to csr@du.ae.

“Ramadan brings us an opportunity every year to engage with the community and add happiness to people’s lives. This year we are diversifying our efforts and reaching out to an entirely different segment of the UAE who live in rural communities,” said Hala Badri, Executive Vice President, Brand and Communications, du. “The 9th Mawaed Al Rahman initiative this year aims to bring communities and families together over meal times and enable du to be a part of their lives during this Holy month. We invite all members of our nation to join us in packing and distributing the food boxes.”

du is using a portion of its Emirati Plan revenues to serve the community, thereby enabling customers to indirectly contribute to this Ramadan initiative.

Last year, du’s Mawaed Al Rahman initiative, in partnership with the Khalifa Foundation, supported underprivileged Emirati women by helping them hone their entrepreneurial skills in the catering industry. Tens of thousands of Iftar meals’ orders were placed with these women to distribute to UAE’s low-income residents visiting local mosques during Ramadan. The project involved 36 female Emirati chefs and 274 volunteers who distributed close to 105,000 Iftar meals during the month of Ramadan.
