Seamless connectivity to benefit commuters of Dubai Metro and Tram

du, the growing telecom service provider in the Middle East, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) to provide WiFi services in all metro stations and trains and in the soon-to-be-launched Dubai Tram Dubai Tram, the first tramway project outside Europe powered by ground-based electric supply system. This announcement came during GITEX Technology Week 2014 on the sideline of the telecom operator being chosen as the Smart City Official WiFi Provider in Dubai.

As a part of this agreement, du will be the official provider of the Free WiFi all Dubai metro trains, and in 29 stations on Red line and 18 stations on Green line , and 11 tram stations across Dubai. Approximately 500,000 number of commuters use the convenient metro services on a regular basis. Since the 09/09/09 until 09/09/2014, around 500,000,000 passengers used the metro.  
Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Commercial Officer of du, said: “Travelling no longer entails being cut off from work or leisure. Convergence of technologies and services will play a key role in shaping the smart city that we dream of. Hence, we are tying up with partners that will enable us to showcase the benefits of our services to the maximum number of people.”

For his part, Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA’s Rail Agency expressed his satisfaction and pleasure over such a vital service for Dubai metro riders, stemming from RTA’s keen on harness state-of-the-art technologies for its PT users from all social segments. 

“RTA has always been committed to avail five star level of services to its clients and customers whether they mass transit commuters or other services’ users. This type of services will definitely enhance RTA’s trend towards Dubai’s transformation to be the world’s smartest city in less than three years,” said Al Ali. 

du’s end-to-end, fully managed WiFi solutions will empower Dubai commuters and RTA employees through seamless connectivity, with one login and one portal, at all these locations. To enjoy du WiFi, customers can connect when the service is available from their WiFi-enabled device and select three usage options: Free high speed for government services, complimentary basic service, and Premium high speed service. Full details of each option will be available through a landing page that is automatically opened upon connection. 

All government websites can be accessed completely free of charge, and at high speed internet, giving residents and visitors a seamless connection with vital governmental processes.
