Dubai, UAE: du, the fastest-growing telecom service provider in the Middle East, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) to provide the necessary telecom infrastructure for DSOA’s under-construction Silicon Park, and other projects. This announcement came during GITEX Technology Week 2014.
As a part of this agreement, du will explore the development of solutions, including providing telecom services, for DSOA’s first integrated smart city project. Spread across 150,000 square metres, the Silicon Park project comprises 71,000 square metres of office space, 25,000 square metres of commercial space and around 46,000 square metres of residential space, including a 115-room business hotel.
Osman Sultan, CEO, du, said: “The convergence of life, mobility, economy, governance and environment in the smart city of tomorrow is only possible through a visionary approach towards technology. Our partnership with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority takes into account the requirements for all the pillars that will form the basis of the smart city. Providing seamless connectivity for customers is the first step to ensuring the rapid realization of the Dubai Smart City vision.”
du will also collaborate on several grounds to help DSOA achieve its ambition of providing smart city services in Dubai Silicon Oasis and Silicon Park. The telecom company will collaborate on the infrastructure design, as well as the setup and operation of a command and control centre at Silicon Park. Additionally, du will explore potential services that can be jointly delivered to better meet the communication needs of the residents, employees and visitors.
Dr Mohammad Alzarooni, Vice Chairman and CEO, DSOA, said: “Dubai Silicon Oasis offers a state-of-the-art infrastructure and a technology-enabled environment for large enterprises to expand their business reach in the region. Today’s partnership with du is an important value addition for our partners in the free zone, who have greater choice with regard to accessing the operator’s range of telecom services and infrastructure for their dynamic business needs.”
Besides using du’s infrastructure for master development of the project, DSOA will also benefit from the delivery of the company’s superior telecommunication services to all connected buildings, plus end-to-end, fully managed WiFi solutions.
A wholly-owned entity of the government of Dubai, DSO operates as a free zone technology park for large and medium enterprises, and small companies looking to set up their offices in Dubai.
