How to use More Data

More Data is only designed for national data use while in the UAE. If you would like to recharge for calls or SMS, use one of our other options: More Credit, More International or More Time.

Each More Data recharge has a validity period of 30 days. We will remind in SMS when your balance is low or if you have used up your entire balance.

If you have used up all of your More Data balance, you can still use your More Credit or More Time balances at standard pay per use rates.

1. What is "More Data"?
"More Data" allows you to access data easily and reduce your data usage costs. This is a new recharge option which allows you to buy data as below:

2. What are the benefits of "More Data"?

  • Affordable; comes in small denominations that fit the budget
  • It is convenient, just dial *131*[card number]# to recharge and browse data on the move conveniently (i.e.: facebook, emails, Google, chats, maps on the go are made easy)


3. How much of data do I need?

The examples below provide a general guideline for the amount of data used per service:
1 email (text only) = 35 KB
1 email with photo attachment = 1 MB
1 email with Word, Excel or PowerPoint attachment = 300 KB
1 web page = 300 KB
1 App/Game/Song = 15 MB
Social media download/ upload = 500 KB
1 4-minute song = 500 KB

4. Am I eligible to use "More Data"?

'More Data' is available for all Pay As You Go®, alo, Visitor Mobile Line customers, Business Mobile Pay As You Go® Plus customers. It is also available for Personal wallet on Premier Plans.

NOTE: You need to have a data compatible handset to use 'More Data'. Check with your handset manufacturer to ensure that your handset is data access compatible.

5. How do I recharge using the "More Data" option?
  • Dial *131*card number# and press the call key.
  • Call IVR 135 from your line which you want to recharge, choose option 1, 3 and then 4
  • Register with Mobile Payment service, and recharge on SelfCare with credit card payment


6. If I have recharged with 'More Data' can I change the balance to other recharge options?
No. For the next recharge, you can choose other options.

7. Will there be any special recharge cards to be used for 'More Data' option?
All existing cards now have four recharge options –'more credit', 'more time', 'more international' and the new 'More Data'. For 'More Data' customers can dial *131* card number # and press the call key.

8. Can I have 'More Time', 'More Credit', 'More International' and 'More Data' balances at the same time? And how will I know about the balance status?

Yes you can have all four types of balances at the same time. For balance enquiry 1) dial *135# and press the call key OR 2) Call 135 OR 3) visit SelfCare at www.du.ae/SelfCare IMPORTANT: Prior to checking your balance, please ensure you end your current data session (For Smartphone users, you may need to turn off your data connection) SMS notifications on balances will also be sent when 1) the data session has ended and 2) when the balance is depleted/ zero.

9. What's 'Smartphones'? And why is it recommended to turn off my data connection prior checking my balance?

A smartphone is generally referred to a high-end mobile phone with high-resolution touchscreen, GPS navigation, Wi-Fi and mobile broadband access. The term smartphone is usually used to describe phones with more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contemporary feature phone.
If you are using a smartphone, the likelihood that your handset having constant or continuous data connectivity is higher due to the rich applications your handset might be running. And because there are so many rich applications running at the background, you might not be aware that there might be still some data connectivity running at the background even you end a specific data session. Hence, we recommend that you turn off your data connection prior checking your data balance so that the most updated data balance will be reflected.

10. My 'More Data' balance does not seem to change even there have been data usage. Why is that?
IMPORTANT: Prior to checking your balance, please ensure you end your current data session (For Smartphone users, you may need to turn off your data connection) for the updated balance to be reflected.

11. Will I be able to use 'More Data' balance when I am on international roaming?
'More Data' balance can only be used for data usage within UAE, NOT while roaming. To use data while roaming, you need to be on a monthly plan (ie: Elite).


12. If I have only 'More Data' balance, can I make calls and SMS etc?

'More Data' balance can only be used for data usage within UAE.

13. What happens if I recharge with 'More Data' more than once?
In this case the Max Rule applies. With the Max Rule if there are 2 or more validity periods, the longer validity period becomes the validity period for all of the data balance. For example - If you recharge with AED 50 with the 'More Data' option and before the end of the validity period recharge with AED 20, the remaining data balance is upgraded to the new validity period (validity of the AED 20).

14. What happens if I recharge with the 'More Data' option but didn't use the credit within the specified period?
You will lose the "More Data" balance if it is not used within the validity period unless another "More Data" recharge is done before the validity period is over.

15. How will the 'More Data' balances be consumed when I have other data balances in the account?
The balances will be used in the following order:
  • Free Data (if applicable) ie: data given as part of the plan and or handset offers
  • Monthly/ one-off Data Bundle
  • Blackberry
  • "More Data"
  • 'More Credit'
  • 'More Time'


16. I have exhausted my 'More Data' balance; will I be able to use data using other balance?

If you have 'more time' or/and 'more credit' balance at the same time, you will be able to use data at 1fils/kB. To save data costs, you are encouraged to use 'More Data' which provides much more of savings.
Note: More international can't be used for data

17. How can I check my 'More Data' balance?
For balance enquiry 1) dial *135# and press the call key OR 2) Call 135 OR 3) visit SelfCare at www.du.ae/SelfCare

IMPORTANT: Prior to checking your balance, ensure you end your current data session (Smartphone users may need to turn off your data connection)
SMS notifications on balances will also be sent when 1) the data session has ended and 2) when the balance is depleted/ zero.

NOTE: you need to have a SMS capable handset to receive these SMS notification.

18. I have a premier plan SIM which has a prepaid feature as well. Can I use my prepaid wallet and recharge with More Data?

Yes, you may recharge your prepaid wallet with More Data and use the same for internet surfing. Please note while doing so none of your data charges will appear in the bill.

19. I am a Mobile Broadband Internet Key customer, would I be able to recharge my account with 'More Data'?
Your Mobile Broadband offer of 6 months discounts on data bundle is only effective on your 'more time' recharge balance. You can certainly still benefit from 'More Data' when you need additional data on top of your existing data bundle.
