Education
Supporting Academia
Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, a fact that we’re all too aware of, and so we’re doing what we can to nurture and develop their creative instincts, so that the UAE of the future will be a flourishing, innovative nation… even more so than it is today. We’re forever on the look-out for novel creative and academic ventures to assist, and so the list of establishments supported by us is a constantly expanding one.
Broadband to universities
What’s studying without the internet? Not very much, in our opinion, and so we’re making an effort to collaborate with various educational establishments in order to offer their students broadband that will help them with their studies, with high-speed connections that allow for real-time video streaming as well as other online needs.
du Media Lab
We’ve collaborated with Zayed University in order to digitize and enhance the technical support at the College of Communication and Media Sciences’ multi-media laboratory, equipping the facilities with a state-of-the-art technical infrastructure, as well as installing software that will benefit the university’s students and faculty.
AUD and MBRSC
In keeping with our aim for improving conditions for students across the UAE, we’ve partnered with the American University in Dubai (AUD)’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid School for Communications (MBRSC), providing them with a high-speed, 100mb broadband internet connection to support the new multimedia programs that the university offers. Our broadband will improve bandwidth-intense activities, such as video streaming.
Microsoft Imagine Cup tie up
We want to encourage creativity and imaginative thinking, and by partnering with Microsoft’s Imagine Cup initiative, that’s exactly what we’re able to do. Established in 2003, the Imagine Cup is a way for students to get involved in developing technology, allowing competitors to battle it out with their peers (over 325,000 as of last year!) from across the globe, with the chance to win not only the prestigious cup trophy but to make a name for themselves in the technology market. The exposure has led to past competitors landing internships at their dream job, or starting their own companies, based around their submitted competition project.
Our intention is to help creative students in the Gulf’s universities and colleges to create a new era of mobile applications, as part of the Mobile Development category that is embedded into Software Design. Teams that win the regional finals not only receive that honor, but are given a special prize from du, too.
du management as guest speakers
Our people know their stuff, and we like to have them pass on their knowledge to aspiring future employees. This is done through lectures at various universities around the country, where our senior staff members will speak to students about their role and the industry.
Partnership with Kalimat
We’ve teamed up with Kalimat, known for publishing Arabic children’s books, in order to promote literacy in our national language while also fostering a love of Arabic language and literature. Our collaborative gesture is aimed at not only sustaining Kalimat’s ingenuity, but at nurturing passion for reading in young readers. Through this joint venture, we’ve supported several local events, such as book readings and signings, while also organizing illustrators’ workshops and taking part in book fairs, to name but a few.
Arabic language campaign
As part of an ongoing effort to promote the Arabic language throughout the UAE, we undertook a campaign to correct commonly-used words which have been misapplied in recent times. This ran throughout print media and on the radio to capture the widest audience possible, promoting the proper usage of our national language.
